Re: Lampsy
I always thought of him as a classic icing on the cake player.
Never was one I worried about against us who was going to grab hold of a game ... like Drogba as mentioned .... or lift them to victory when others were struggling.

World class midfielders in recent years ...: Xavi, Iniesta, Modric , Silva for starters
Lampard wasn't at that level

Spot on Stewie...

Respect his stats ... but not World Class...

Re: Lampsy
Not close to world class for me, dancer.

I can't think of a single big game in his entire career that he had any influence on at all. Great players make a difference. Gerrard single handedly won trophies for a piss poor Liverpool side. In the case of that Chelsea side, Drogba record in finals was absolutely ridiculous..he was the one who made the difference when it was needed

Great record..but the ultimate flat track bully for me.

Re: Lampsy
Was there anything on the website or a statement from the club when Rio Ferdinand retired?
Or any other former player who didn't finish their career with us?
Can't say I recall it as a regular feature

Re: Lampsy
His goal record isn't unfortunately debate, it's top class regardless of where he played, but let's be honest, he played more or less as a second striker behind Drogba, who is one of the best lone strikers I've ever seen.

The rest of his game was very good, no doubt, but I never watched him and thought, fucking hell what a player. With Gerrard, I'd watch him and at times, he looked like the only player on the pitch, never thought that with Lampard.

And beat a player? Is that serious?

Re: Lampsy
I don't like the cunt but anyone saying he was average hasn't got a clue.

He was a quality midfielder, even if he wasn't, his goal record alone would have him up there with the top centre mids of his generation.

I'm also delighted the club didn't mention him, why should we fawn over some prick who hates us?

Re: Lampsy
What's this nonsense about playing with other great players helped him out? Of course he played with other great players, like all great players do, he wasn't go and play for Leicester was he just to prove a point.

IMO he WAS world class. he had all the attributes of a world class footballer. Great passer of the ball, short and long, very good first touch, could take the ball in his stride, good at link up play, 2 great feet, could beat a player, had a great shot on him, was a grafter, and of course his ridiculous goal record from midfield where he scored all different types of goals, then the 100+ England caps. He may not have been as good as Iniesta, who is, but he was a world class footballer all day long, and I reckon many of the top players that he played with (the cheek of it) would tell you exacly the same thing.

"I remember when Joe Cole first came to Chelsea he would turn away in disappointment if West Ham lost. I would smile.

"That's how deeply I felt. I wanted West Ham to lose. Now I don't even look for their results."

Talking to Sky. Also said some of us cheered when he did his leg at Villa. I don't remember that.

Totally agree.

Like most if not all of the England players, they look thoroughly exposed without their foreign team mates around them.
